Break the damaging cycle

Image
Life is filled with taboos- those hushed topics or situations imposed by family or friends. Whether its facing uncomfortable behaviors or personal challenges like mental health issue, we tend to carry on pretending like nothing has happened. But there comes a day when these unspoken issues hit us. What do we do then? We've been taught to hush up and move on, dealing with problems on our own so people does not get to know. So we follow these lessons until the damage is done, and there's no turning back. Do our family, neighbors or the so called aunts and uncles step in to help? Its a no. We are left alone to handle the aftermath. Its unclear to me to whether blame the older generation, society or the parenting. While everyone prioritize their matters within family, weren't children one of them? Why wasn't teaching children navigate life's challenges one of the priority? It seems to me now, that back in the days, children were treated as puppets so parents could show...

The Science of Happiness

Hormones and happiness: When we talk about science of happiness, its all about understanding our brain playing its role in our well being. Often referred to as the "feel good" hormone Mr. Dopamine is a key player in making us happy. Things like exercise, balanced diet, social connections, mindfulness, gratitude practices cater much to the release of these hormones including serotonin, endorphins making us feel good, contributing to our good health.  Genetics and happiness: Does happiness have a genetic link? Well, research is still ongoing to find the relation between genetic makeup and the emotion of happiness. While the genetic basis of happiness is still being explored, it seems like genes does play a role in our happiness. The certain reactions, responses that we are familiar with growing up becomes our natural and involuntary emotion to situations that we face in our later life and so forth goes on to generation. They impact our well being and mental health. Simple examp...

Gratitude : Practice to more fulfilling life

Being grateful isn't that simple as it sounds. In this age of social media, we often come across the message of practicing gratitude, showing appreciation to others and being thankful for our lives. While its undeniably important to be grateful, its more easier said than done. Inspired by the wisdom of many books, I have come to realize that gratitude can be cultivated in our life in small, deliberate steps. #1 Make Gratitude a Daily Habit Gratitude should become an integral part of our daily routine. It can be as simple as: Starting your day with a grateful prayer. Smiling at yourself in the mirror, as you brush or get dressed, expressing thanks to the wonderful day ahead. Taking a walk, appreciating the beautiful nature that provides you fresh air. Dedicating a moment to jot down three things you are grateful for each day. #2 Express Gratitude to Loved ones Our loved ones stand by us through our thick and thin. It doesn't take much to say a heartfelt thankyou  with a smile ...

Money: The Recognition to your hard work

Image
Money does not grow on trees.  This saying has been instilled on us since childhood and probably continuing on future generations to come. The intention is pure I don't deny but the outcome needs to be revisited. The basic idea behind this was to be grateful for what we have and spare our parents from the burden of relentless work to meet their monthly survival and thereby putting us up on a safe path of contentment.  Older generations believed in the idea of being safe  than to explore the unchartered territories. No blame;  they simply lacked the exposure to possibilities for wealth beyond the necessity for contentment. The prevailing belief was that the want for more money makes you greedy. However, its high time we reassess this perspective. We need to stop viewing money as an elusive beanstalk. That's a lame old fairytale, far from reality. Money is in fact, a reward for your diligent hard work and efforts that transcends the confines of a conventional jo...

Gentle parenting

Image
Never thought I would say this. But gentle parenting is tough. Period.  We read a lot about gentle parenting and am convinced that its more demanding in practice than in theory. After all, we are not parenting a human-shaped toy. We get to deal with actual human beings who can yell at the top of their lungs and flop on to the floor as though the cold floor gives them the warmth of a blanket, all because of a simple two letter word "NO"! A "NO" that's it. Not sure why children despise that word so much, although it appears vulnerable and assertive to the adults at the same time. For starters, parenting in itself is one of most exhausting phases of life, let alone the "gentle". It often feel like you need the mindfulness, resilience and patience of a monk to deal with this. Well, in our twenties and thirties, do we chase our dreams and savor our life to the fullest or embark on a monastic journey! Jokes apart, whether you choose to have a child or not,...

People-pleasing

Image
The Hidden roots of people-pleasing: Unravelling early childhood and small trauma Did you know that that people-pleasing behavior often stems from early childhood experiences and can be traced back to what can be considered as small traumas? Well it does! The compulsion to please others and seek their approval often develops from the upbringing of being told to look and behave in a certain way. But here's the secret: Its entirely unnecessary.  You know why? The Truth about pleasing others You might be wondering why its so unnecessary. Simple. Because everybody is occupied dealing with their own issues. Nobody got time to analyze or scrutinize your every action or question your choices including the times when you had to say "NO" for your opinion.  People are wrapped up with their daily physical and emotional challenges. And if at all you catch someone reacting to what's considered "non-pleasing" behavior its definitely  not on you. Spe...

Poem to younger self

Image
BE YOUR PERSON - to my younger self The person I need to be As lazy as I could ever be; Blame it on the star sign Taurus, a reason I could always whine; They say we are grounded to earth So much for me to feel any worth; But as I nonchalantly lingered around my Earth People explored the Mars! hey not a mirth! Believing in yourself comes to you in demand Seemingly could take a while to understand; But today  as I write,  I have reached a good place  The person I am, I embrace; So to my younger self- Believe, Accept, Embrace and love for "You are not just put on the Earth; You are here for a reason" So take your time but do reach your good place For its Your life, Your choice  To be Your person!

Aging- Path to grace

Aging- Delighting to endure In the midst of highs and lows, A journey that we all go through; Aging, a path we shy away from the knows, Love it hate for all the crew. Chasing it seems to look, From childhood to adulthood; Best lives that we don't yearn to hook, To the gaudy lives we dream for good; In the midst of day's and night's' Do we forget our blossoming hues? Etched in laughers and tears; Do we perceive only our maturing blues? Oh! how determined and valiant are we today, But yet looks at the mirror, for our reflection to stay ; Do know, it fades away with grace, As, we leave behind no fears to trace. So lets renounce the yesterday and embrace the tomorrow, Of growing old and bolds; Unveil our beauty by the joys and sorrows, For our aging, love it and embrace it, as it unfolds.

READING IS NURTURING

Image
READING IS KEY           As parents, we often encourage our children to engage in activities that can help them stand out and succeed. However, there is one essential pursuit that cannot be emphasized enough: READING.   Reading is not just a pastime; it’s a transformative journey that nurtures our inner souls, fosters continuous learning, understanding, exploration and mental stimulation. Through the pages of a book, one can travel to places they create, engage in conversations with people they idolize, and discover unique perspectives. Just as its important to nurture our physical well-being, our mental space requires equal attention. Reading is a key to keeping our minds sharp and motivated during our tough times. I speak from my personal experience when I say books can be your child ‘s steadfast companion when no one else can be around. As a parent, I take pride in passing on this invaluable gift to my child. Will you join me doing the same?

My World Today

I have a mixed feeling of the world we are in today. As an individual, my routine has been so much at fingertips. When in need of food, clothing or cosmetics I get it with a click of a button. Do I want to spend time with my family, I bring them all under one single cloud to have a video call and share our days. Do I want to entertain myself, I get to just chill on my couch and Netflix.                                  But as I shift my individuality into roles that's when I get these mixed feelings. As a mother, the world today made me the mother I never ...
